Last summer, Austrias climbing federation announced that competitors with a body mass index (BMI) of less than 17 would not be allowed to compete. The new rule caught the attention of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC), now considering a similar ban for its own competition circuit, which includes the World Cup. The groups medical commission reported in November that because climbing favors lean athletes, the drive to win could lead to wrong food habits.
